Cathedral Gorge State Park

DAY 1

Depart Las Vegas on I-15 North to Hwy 93 North. Stop at the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge and view the many species of birds and other wildlife. Continue north for a few more miles toward Alamo and enjoy lunch and scrumptious baked goods.

Continue on the scenic Great Basin Highway to Kershaw-Ryan State Park where you can hike, play volleyball, or just relax on the lush grass. Next stop is at the spectacular Cathedral Gorge State Park where you can walk along paths through dramatic sandstone formations such as the Moon Caves. Drive to the historic mining town of Pioche and visit Boot Hill, the Million Dollar Courthouse and the town museum. Overnight in Pioche.

Great Basin National Park

DAY 2

Drive north on the Great Basin Highway to Hwy 50 East and into the Great Basin National Park. Hike up to the Bristlecone Pines, the oldest living trees on earth. Enjoy a trip to Lehman Caves and marvel at the incredible stalactite and stalagmite formations. Then continue on Hwy 50 West toward Ely. Go on a train ride or take a driving tour around town to view the many murals painted by world class artists depicting the history of Ely. Overnight in Ely.

 

 

Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park

DAY 3

Drive south of Ely to visit the Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park, the domed remnants of local history. Six large Italian made brick ovens stand tall as a monument to the mining operations of the past.  Almost directly across Hwy 93 from the exit to the Charcoal Ovens is the turn off to Cave Lake State Park.  A short drive to the park takes you up into forest of Pinion and Juniper dwarfed by limestone cliffs and complimented by an azure blue lake.  Bring you hiking boots, fishing poles, paddle boards, and mountain bikes for your time at Cave Lake State Park.

 

Echo Canyon State Park

DAY 4

Order a picnic lunch from one of the local eateries before leaving Ely. Head south on the Great Basin
Highway for a visit to the beautiful Spring Valley State Park and Echo Canyon State Park.
Drive to Beaver Dam State Park before going to Las Vegas via Hwy 93.
