SUMMARY:Silver State Classic Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Driving enthusiasts from around the world gather in the Nevada high desert for the running of a truly unique racing and automotive event Sep. 12-15\, 2019. \nFrom Ely to Las Vegas\, a two-lane public highway is closed for the race. \n \nClasses begin at 95 mph\, and increase in 5 mph increments up through the 160 mph class\, with a 170 mph\, 180 mph\, and an Unlimited\, top speed class. Vehicles start one at a time\, in one minute intervals against a GPS timing clock\, and attempt to break the beam at the finish line as close as possible to their speed class target time. \nFirst\, Second and Third place trophies are awarded to the Driver and Navigator/Co-driver in each class\, based on most accurate elapsed time targets achieved\, as measured by SSCC timing equipment.

SUMMARY:Military Convoy Centennial Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln Highway Association is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a tour commemorating the centennial of the 1919 Army convoy across the Lincoln Highway\, arriving in Ely for an overnight stay on September 13. \nThe original convoy during the summer of 1919 was a monumental event in the history of the United States. On that convoy was a young army officer named Dwight Eisenhower\, who learned many lessons as they crossed the country on the Lincoln Highway. \n\nDuring the first two weeks of September 2019\, they retrace the path of Eisenhower and the Army convoy. The tour begins near the White House in Washington\, D.C. and travels at a leisurely pace\, averaging under 200 miles daily\, ending in San Francisco at the Lincoln Highway’s western terminus. Because of the historic nature of this tour\, participants are welcome and encouraged to drive vintage vehicles from any era — military or civilian — as they please. \nSo look forward to seeing plenty of vintage vehicles – military or otherwise – around September 13 in Ely\, and know that the drivers are retracing history!
