DESCRIPTION:NNRY Photoshoots and Workshops\nIf you think you were born one hundred years too late to witness the glory of steam railroading\, then we have good news for you: you weren’t. There still exists a place where steam locomotives rule the rails\, and there’s no better opportunity to view and capture them forever than at the NNRY Photo Weekend Spectacular! \nHidden away in the high desert of east central Nevada is a time capsule like no other: the Nevada Northern Railway National Historic Landmark. Annually during the first two weekends in February\, time travel is possible. Come to Ely\, Nevada and set your watch back a century\, and photograph vintage railroading. \nThe Nevada Northern Railway is not a mishmash of equipment from different railroads or different countries\, nor is the equipment prettified or garish. This is the original railroad equipment in the original paint schemes in the original setting.  All equipment has been on the property for decades\, and some if it more than a century\, all of it still operating on the original track that was graded and laid a century ago. \nWhat can you expect during the photo shoots? World-class photographic opportunities\, steam locomotives pulling vintage freight and passenger cars that are original to the railroad. Here\, trains are still made up with wooden cars whose origins date back as far as 1872. The crews will be in period dress\, adding to the experience. \nSo why come to Ely in the winter? If you think that Steam locomotive 93 looks good on an 85-degree day in August but wait till you see it on a frosty February day. Billowing white clouds of steam plus plumes of black & gray smoke towering above the canyons and valleys. Snow? Weather here can be capricious! It can range from blizzard conditions to cobalt blue skies sometimes within minutes. In the past we’ve experienced every type of meteorological conditions that wintertime Ely experiences\, including shirtsleeve weather. DESCRIPTION:The Elks Annual Crab Crack\nMake sure you’re not wearing your Saturday best during this year’s Crab Crack on February 1st and March 8th at the Elks Annual Crab Crack\, because attempting to be dainty is a losing strategy at this type of event. For most people\, this is another great gathering at the table with some friends and family. \nThis event serves 500 pounds of crab that is shipped to Ocean Beauty Distributors in Salt Lake from Fisheries in Astoria\, Oregon. Volunteers from the lodge drive to Salt Lake to pick up the frozen crab on Wednesday before the event. The crab is thawed and served at just the right temperature. Along with the crab\, 60 pounds of coleslaw and 50 loaves of garlic bread\, cocktail sauce and 39 pounds of melted butter is also served with dinner. \nYou arrive to your seat\, and plate of crab legs\, a “crab cracker”\, and bib awaits each guest. \n$70 per ticket \n$100 for steak and crab \nYou see many guests holding a conversation while cracking open crab legs\, pulling the meat off with their hands popping it in their mouth and continuing on their journey of disassembling a crab leg for all of the meat it has to offer. Some choose to wear the bib that is provided\, and others try to maintain their fashion trend by opting out on the bib option. \nContact the Ely Elks for more information and tickets at (775) 293 – 0107.
