DESCRIPTION:Nevada Northern Railway host’s the inaugural Iron Horse Cookery Cook-Off. The railway invites cooks to step back in history for this culinary event\, preparing hearty meals the same way the earliest engineers did. \nA competitor in the Nevada Northern Railway Cookery-Cook-Off \nTeams of up to four cooks wearing authentic clothes from 100 years ago will prepare three meals in 45-minute rounds. The second-place team will receive a $75 cash prize and the team in first-place will be awarded a $150 cash prize. One cook will be the event’s grand champion named the Iron Horse Cookery Master Chef and will be awarded a $250 cash prize. SUMMARY:150th Anniversary of Transcontinental Railroad Celebration
DESCRIPTION:On May 10th\, 150 years ago the Transcontinental Railroad was completed connecting the nation from coast to coast forever changing the way we moved around the country. Ely will join the rest of the country in celebrating this momentous historic event in it’s own way on May 10\, 2019 with live music\, train rides\, exhibitions\, talks and more. The first train leaves at 1 pm and returns just in time for the “Joining Of The Rails Ceremony” where both locomotives will pull up nose-to-nose and a copper spike will be driven just like at Promontory Point 150 years ago. A double locomotive train ride will go out at 4:30 pm and return just in time for a FREE concert at the Freight Barn starting at 6:30 pm with the Bar D Wranglers from Durango\, Colorado. The evening will be filled with music\, stories\, and comedy from the old west.

This is a food drive/fundraiser where White Pine County Tour and Rec has partnered with White Pine County Social Services and the C.A.C.H (Committee Against Child Hunger) program to fill the food pantries for our local children and seniors going into the holiday season. This concert is FREE to patrons who donate needed nonperishable items requested by the 2 organizations. Suggested value of $20. DESCRIPTION:What better way to celebrate your country’s independence than with your fellow Americans? The White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board invites anyone anywhere to come and enjoy a free\, delicious breakfast to celebrate the independence of our country. \nThis breakfast will take place at the Bristlecone Convention Center located on the southeast corner of 6th Street and Lyons Avenue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOld Fashioned July 4th of July Parade\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParade begins at 11:00 a.m.\nThe patriotism of Ely\, Nevada shows through in its annual Fourth of July Parade. \nThe main street\, Highway 50\, is closed off to traffic and at 11 a.m. the fun begins. The parade begins with the American and Nevada state flags displayed by The Pony Express horseback riders. Following the flags\, the Grand Marshall waves to everyone. \nAfter the parade has ended\, there will be games\, face painting\, and booths at Broadbent Park\, where the parade began. The streets are always crowded at this once a year event\, so if you want a great view of the parade\, and the possibility of catching candy or Frisbees\, get there early.  Many barbeques will be planned while waiting for the parade to begin\, so be prepared! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRed\, White\, and Blue Golf Tournament\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:00 p.m. at the White Pine Golf Course \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhite Pine Golf Course is an 18-hole course which was built in 1928. \nIt has a USGA course rating of 72.3\, which is 0.1% higher than the average for all Golf Courses. \nWhite Pine Golf Course is a par 73 course.
