SUMMARY:10th Annual Race the Rails
DESCRIPTION:10th Annual Race the Rails\nThe steam locomotive and the bicycle were invented nearly 10 years apart. Both changed the way we travel\, but which will prevail on September 12th at the 10th Annual Race the Rails?! \nAt the sound of the train whistle\, mountain and road bikers race to see who can get back to the depot before the train. \nMountain bikers and gravel grinders test their speed and agility on a challenging 10-mile course through the beautiful mountains surrounding Ely. Road bikers prove their speed and endurance on a 25-mile course along roads and highway sin the area. Everyone who finishes the course will receive a finishers medal. \nThis is not a regular race against time\, or your fellow riders. It’s a race against one of history’s most powerful inventions! It’s a Race the Rails – 2026! \nRegister for the Race the Rails HERE! \nEly is a remote mountain town of 4\,000 where history\, art\, and outdoor adventure run deep. In the nearby Great Basin National Park\, travelers have the chance to descend into the depths of the Lehman Cave system to explore a series of limestone and marble caverns full of huge stalagmites and other wild rock formations. The park is also home to the snow-capped Wheeler Peak which\, at 13\,000 feet\, is the second-tallest mountain in Nevada. \n \nLearn more about Ely and White Pine County HERE!

Grab the entire family and Visit Ely Nevada for 3 days of fun at the oldest horse racing event in Nevada. \nPari-mutuel betting is the most common form of horse racing betting. The term actually originated in France\, and literally translates “to wager amongst ourselves”. Unlike most other forms of betting\, the odds are not fixed. Rather than placing a bet against the race track\, like one would with a bookie\, horse racing bettors are wagering against each other. For this reason\, the payouts on a single wager could range anywhere from less than the actual amount wagered\, to astronomical amounts. \nCome down to the fairgrounds early on Friday and check out all the excitement of the Ranch Rodeo.  Contestants compete in events like bronc riding\, barrel racing\, roping\, and even mutton busting for the kids. \nLocated at the White Pine County Fair Grounds on Fairview Lane next to the Marich Softball Complex. \nSee their website for a list of events and prices. \nThe 2026 Condition Book(TBA)\nMore Info Can Be Found HERE!

The American Discovery Trail goes past numerous historic sites\, through dozens of ecosystems\, and it is hosted by hundreds of communities. \nThe 35-year-old route passes through lands and trails overseen by numerous state and local agencies and organizations in fifteen states\, the National Park Service\, U.S. Forest Service\, Bureau of Land Management\, as well as near the homes of more than 40 million people. Relayers and participants will be from around the country and also abroad\, with opportunities for businesses\, families\, students\, older residents\, and communities of all types to be involved. \nWe are proud White Pine County has such a large volunteer base for this event\, and great to be along the route!

SUMMARY:NNRY Photoshoots and Workshops
DESCRIPTION:NNRY Photoshoots and Workshops\nIf you think you were born one hundred years too late to witness the glory of steam railroading\, then we have good news for you: you weren’t. There still exists a place where steam locomotives rule the rails\, and there’s no better opportunity to view and capture them forever than at the NNRY Photo Weekend Spectacular! \nHidden away in the high desert of east central Nevada is a time capsule like no other: the Nevada Northern Railway National Historic Landmark. Annually during the first two weekends in February\, time travel is possible. Come to Ely\, Nevada and set your watch back a century\, and photograph vintage railroading. \nThe Nevada Northern Railway is not a mishmash of equipment from different railroads or different countries\, nor is the equipment prettified or garish. This is the original railroad equipment in the original paint schemes in the original setting.  All equipment has been on the property for decades\, and some if it more than a century\, all of it still operating on the original track that was graded and laid a century ago. \nWhat can you expect during the photo shoots? World-class photographic opportunities\, steam locomotives pulling vintage freight and passenger cars that are original to the railroad. Here\, trains are still made up with wooden cars whose origins date back as far as 1872. The crews will be in period dress\, adding to the experience. \nSo why come to Ely in the winter? If you think that Steam locomotive 93 looks good on an 85-degree day in August but wait till you see it on a frosty February day. Billowing white clouds of steam plus plumes of black & gray smoke towering above the canyons and valleys. Snow? Weather here can be capricious! It can range from blizzard conditions to cobalt blue skies sometimes within minutes. In the past we’ve experienced every type of meteorological conditions that wintertime Ely experiences\, including shirtsleeve weather. But regardless of the weather\, the show goes on. \nParticipants have won numerous photo contests\, recording timeless scenes of a historical railroad that are second to none. \nLearn More About the NNRY Photo Weekend Spectacular HERE!\nDiscover More White Pine County Events HERE!
