SUMMARY:Military Convoy Centennial Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln Highway Association is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a tour commemorating the centennial of the 1919 Army convoy across the Lincoln Highway\, arriving in Ely for an overnight stay on September 13. \nThe original convoy during the summer of 1919 was a monumental event in the history of the United States. On that convoy was a young army officer named Dwight Eisenhower\, who learned many lessons as they crossed the country on the Lincoln Highway. \n\nDuring the first two weeks of September 2019\, they retrace the path of Eisenhower and the Army convoy. The tour begins near the White House in Washington\, D.C. and travels at a leisurely pace\, averaging under 200 miles daily\, ending in San Francisco at the Lincoln Highway’s western terminus. Because of the historic nature of this tour\, participants are welcome and encouraged to drive vintage vehicles from any era — military or civilian — as they please. \nSo look forward to seeing plenty of vintage vehicles – military or otherwise – around September 13 in Ely\, and know that the drivers are retracing history! DESCRIPTION:Driving enthusiasts from around the world gather in the Nevada high desert for the running of a truly unique racing and automotive event Sep. 12-15\, 2019. \nFrom Ely to Las Vegas\, a two-lane public highway is closed for the race. \n \nClasses begin at 95 mph\, and increase in 5 mph increments up through the 160 mph class\, with a 170 mph\, 180 mph\, and an Unlimited\, top speed class. Vehicles start one at a time\, in one minute intervals against a GPS timing clock\, and attempt to break the beam at the finish line as close as possible to their speed class target time. \nFirst\, Second and Third place trophies are awarded to the Driver and Navigator/Co-driver in each class\, based on most accurate elapsed time targets achieved\, as measured by SSCC timing equipment.

The railway invites cooks to step back in history for this culinary event\, preparing hearty meals the same way the earliest engineers did. \nA competitor in the Nevada Northern Railway Cookery-Cook-Off \nTeams of up to four cooks wearing authentic clothes from 100 years ago will prepare three meals in 45-minute rounds. The second-place team will receive a $75 cash prize and the team in first-place will be awarded a $150 cash prize. One cook will be the event’s grand champion named the Iron Horse Cookery Master Chef and will be awarded a $250 cash prize. DESCRIPTION:Come and enjoy Ely’s Farmers’ Market at the Renaissance Village\, 400 Ely Street. Farmers’ Markets allow local farmers to sell their fruits\, vegetables\, meats\, cheeses\, and baked goods directly to the public. They are organized to benefit both the local farmers as well as local consumers. \nAll produce is sold by the Ely Renaissance Society and proceeds go towards Renaissance projects. The market will also feature local vendors selling locally grown fruits and vegetables\, jam and specialty food items.

SUMMARY:Jay Derbidge Memorial Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Jay Derbidge Memorial Run/Walk will be held on August 24th at Veterans Memorial Park in memory of Jay Derbidge\, Husband\, Father\, Rotarian\, and member of our community\, who lost his battle with cancer. The event is a fundraiser for the Ely Cancer Fund and the Lazarex Cancer Foundation. The distance\, 14 Laps around the park totaling 5.44K/ 3.4 Miles\, representing the average distance people have to travel to get cancer treatment\, but certainly not the distance people from White Pine County have to travel. Registration opens at 9 am with coffee and open sidewalk chalk art spaces available to participants to leave a message or kind word for all those touched by the battle with cancer. There will be a presentation at 9:30 am and the run/walk begins at 10 am. \nCost is $39/ adults and $19/kids\, 4 and under/ FREE. Lunch will be provided at 11 am and all participants will get a commemorative T-shirt. Everyone is welcome to come out and celebrate Jay’s life and show their support for the Derbidge family and our community. \nDonation checks can be made out to “Jay Derbidge Memorial” and either deposited at Nevada Bank and Trust or mailed to:\nNancy Herms\n800 Hall Street\nEly\, NV 89301
