DESCRIPTION:Come join the Ely Outdoor Enthusiasts in their first trail run event on May 18th! This years event will offer a long (4.2 mile) and short (2.0 mile) course. \nThe Ward Legacy Trail (4.2 miles) is an ATV trail that winds through pinyon and juniper trees and climbs for a scenic view of Steptoe Valley and a view of Wheeler Peak at Great Basin National Park. The trails consists of packed dirt\, loose gravel\, and some rocky loose climbs and descents. \nThe Riparian Loop Trail (2.0) is a hiking trail with gently rolling terrain along Willow Creek. This is a great beginner and kids trail run! \nPrices:\nWard Legacy Trail: $25\nRiparian Loop Trail: $15\nPurchase an additional event hat: $15 \nThe event will be chipped timed. Prizes will go to the top male and female for each course. There will be no finishing medals. \nWe are allowing dogs at this event! To make sure everyone has a safe and fun event the following rules apply: \n• Dogs must be on a leash at all times.\n• Dogs must be under control at all times.\n• Kids 13 and under with a dog must be accompanied by an adult.\n• Extendable leads longer than two meters are not allowed on the course.\n• Only one dog per person allowed.\n• Owners must clean up dog’s feces at the start/finish area and on the trail. Take soiled bags with you and dispose of at the finish line.\n• Use common sense when involving your dog in this race. Please do not bring your dog if:\no Your dog is not fit enough to run/walk the entire course.\no Is not leashed trained.\no Does not get along with other dogs\, adults\, or kids.\n• Runners without dogs have the right-of-way. SUMMARY:150th Anniversary of Transcontinental Railroad Celebration
DESCRIPTION:On May 10th\, 150 years ago the Transcontinental Railroad was completed connecting the nation from coast to coast forever changing the way we moved around the country. Ely will join the rest of the country in celebrating this momentous historic event in it’s own way on May 10\, 2019 with live music\, train rides\, exhibitions\, talks and more. The first train leaves at 1 pm and returns just in time for the “Joining Of The Rails Ceremony” where both locomotives will pull up nose-to-nose and a copper spike will be driven just like at Promontory Point 150 years ago. A double locomotive train ride will go out at 4:30 pm and return just in time for a FREE concert at the Freight Barn starting at 6:30 pm with the Bar D Wranglers from Durango\, Colorado. The evening will be filled with music\, stories\, and comedy from the old west.

This is a free to attend event\, and everyone is encouraged to bring their OHVs for the Saturday ride. \nThe OHV Summit will focus on developments in the OHV grants program\, current projects around the state\, responsible recreation\, and the local trails. Our goal for the first summit is to identify new project areas\, create a collaboration between user groups and land managers\, and provide education opportunities for responsible recreation.

The White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board invites anyone anywhere to come and enjoy a free\, delicious breakfast to celebrate the independence of our country. \nThis breakfast will take place at the Bristlecone Convention Center located on the southeast corner of 6th Street and Lyons Avenue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOld Fashioned July 4th of July Parade\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParade begins at 11:00 a.m.\nThe patriotism of Ely\, Nevada shows through in its annual Fourth of July Parade. \nThe main street\, Highway 50\, is closed off to traffic and at 11 a.m. the fun begins. The parade begins with the American and Nevada state flags displayed by The Pony Express horseback riders. Following the flags\, the Grand Marshall waves to everyone. \nAfter the parade has ended\, there will be games\, face painting\, and booths at Broadbent Park\, where the parade began. The streets are always crowded at this once a year event\, so if you want a great view of the parade\, and the possibility of catching candy or Frisbees\, get there early.  Many barbeques will be planned while waiting for the parade to begin\, so be prepared! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRed\, White\, and Blue Golf Tournament\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:00 p.m. at the White Pine Golf Course \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhite Pine Golf Course is an 18-hole course which was built in 1928. \nIt has a USGA course rating of 72.3\, which is 0.1% higher than the average for all Golf Courses. \nWhite Pine Golf Course is a par 73 course. DESCRIPTION:Gymkhana is an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games for riders on horses. These events often emphasize children’s participation and may be organized by a recognized Pony Club or a 4-H club. In parts of the western United States\, this type of competition is usually called an “O-Mok-See” (also spelled “omoksee” or without hyphenation as “o mok see”) competition\, a term derived from a Native American phrase said to mean “games on horseback.” Very small events with little or no prize money\, designed for beginners or riders at a local level\, are sometimes called playdays. Gymkhana is the word used in most of the rest of the English-speaking world\, including the United Kingdom\, and both the east and west coasts of the United States. \n\n\n\nGymkhana includes timed speed events such as barrel racing\, pole bending\, keyhole race\, keg race (also known as “down and back”)\, flag racing\, and stake race. Some organizations include ride and run\, musical mats\, egg stomp\, $1 bill race or “ride a buck”\, and sack race. \nMost of these events are designed to display precise\, controlled actions and tight teamwork between horse and rider at speed\, and demonstrate many skills such as flying lead changes\, sliding stops and more. Most clubs offer a variety of classes for all ages and abilities of people\, allowing riders to compete at the speed level at which they are most capable and comfortable.
