SUMMARY:Military Convoy Centennial Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln Highway Association is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a tour commemorating the centennial of the 1919 Army convoy across the Lincoln Highway\, arriving in Ely for an overnight stay on September 13. \nThe original convoy during the summer of 1919 was a monumental event in the history of the United States. On that convoy was a young army officer named Dwight Eisenhower\, who learned many lessons as they crossed the country on the Lincoln Highway. \n\nDuring the first two weeks of September 2019\, they retrace the path of Eisenhower and the Army convoy. The tour begins near the White House in Washington\, D.C. and travels at a leisurely pace\, averaging under 200 miles daily\, ending in San Francisco at the Lincoln Highway’s western terminus. Because of the historic nature of this tour\, participants are welcome and encouraged to drive vintage vehicles from any era — military or civilian — as they please. \nSo look forward to seeing plenty of vintage vehicles – military or otherwise – around September 13 in Ely\, and know that the drivers are retracing history! DESCRIPTION:Driving enthusiasts from around the world gather in the Nevada high desert for the running of a truly unique racing and automotive event Sep. 12-15\, 2019. \nFrom Ely to Las Vegas\, a two-lane public highway is closed for the race. \n \nClasses begin at 95 mph\, and increase in 5 mph increments up through the 160 mph class\, with a 170 mph\, 180 mph\, and an Unlimited\, top speed class. Vehicles start one at a time\, in one minute intervals against a GPS timing clock\, and attempt to break the beam at the finish line as close as possible to their speed class target time. \nFirst\, Second and Third place trophies are awarded to the Driver and Navigator/Co-driver in each class\, based on most accurate elapsed time targets achieved\, as measured by SSCC timing equipment.

SUMMARY:Jay Derbidge Memorial Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Jay Derbidge Memorial Run/Walk will be held on August 24th at Veterans Memorial Park in memory of Jay Derbidge\, Husband\, Father\, Rotarian\, and member of our community\, who lost his battle with cancer. The event is a fundraiser for the Ely Cancer Fund and the Lazarex Cancer Foundation. The distance\, 14 Laps around the park totaling 5.44K/ 3.4 Miles\, representing the average distance people have to travel to get cancer treatment\, but certainly not the distance people from White Pine County have to travel. Registration opens at 9 am with coffee and open sidewalk chalk art spaces available to participants to leave a message or kind word for all those touched by the battle with cancer. There will be a presentation at 9:30 am and the run/walk begins at 10 am. \nCost is $39/ adults and $19/kids\, 4 and under/ FREE. Lunch will be provided at 11 am and all participants will get a commemorative T-shirt. DESCRIPTION:Come join the Ely Outdoor Enthusiasts in their first trail run event on May 18th! This years event will offer a long (4.2 mile) and short (2.0 mile) course. \nThe Ward Legacy Trail (4.2 miles) is an ATV trail that winds through pinyon and juniper trees and climbs for a scenic view of Steptoe Valley and a view of Wheeler Peak at Great Basin National Park. The trails consists of packed dirt\, loose gravel\, and some rocky loose climbs and descents. \nThe Riparian Loop Trail (2.0) is a hiking trail with gently rolling terrain along Willow Creek. This is a great beginner and kids trail run! \nPrices:\nWard Legacy Trail: $25\nRiparian Loop Trail: $15\nPurchase an additional event hat: $15 \nThe event will be chipped timed. Prizes will go to the top male and female for each course. There will be no finishing medals. \nWe are allowing dogs at this event! To make sure everyone has a safe and fun event the following rules apply: \n• Dogs must be on a leash at all times.\n• Dogs must be under control at all times.\n• Kids 13 and under with a dog must be accompanied by an adult.\n• Extendable leads longer than two meters are not allowed on the course.\n• Only one dog per person allowed.\n• Owners must clean up dog’s feces at the start/finish area and on the trail. Take soiled bags with you and dispose of at the finish line.\n• Use common sense when involving your dog in this race. Please do not bring your dog if:\no Your dog is not fit enough to run/walk the entire course.\no Is not leashed trained.\no Does not get along with other dogs\, adults\, or kids.\n• Runners without dogs have the right-of-way. SUMMARY:150th Anniversary of Transcontinental Railroad Celebration
DESCRIPTION:On May 10th\, 150 years ago the Transcontinental Railroad was completed connecting the nation from coast to coast forever changing the way we moved around the country. Ely will join the rest of the country in celebrating this momentous historic event in it’s own way on May 10\, 2019 with live music\, train rides\, exhibitions\, talks and more. The first train leaves at 1 pm and returns just in time for the “Joining Of The Rails Ceremony” where both locomotives will pull up nose-to-nose and a copper spike will be driven just like at Promontory Point 150 years ago. A double locomotive train ride will go out at 4:30 pm and return just in time for a FREE concert at the Freight Barn starting at 6:30 pm with the Bar D Wranglers from Durango\, Colorado. The evening will be filled with music\, stories\, and comedy from the old west.
