These shows are made for families\, friends\, and blankets in the grass. \n \nAugust 12th – Chris Cain Band\n\nChris Cain Bio:\nChris Cain offers up a soulful stew of Memphis style electric blues. His powerfully deep vocals and jazz inspired\, blues guitar riffs are unforgettable; uniquely his own\, while reminiscent of the legendary BB King and Albert King. As a child\, Chris Cain attended concerts with his dad to hear many of the great blues artists of the time. When Cain burst onto the blues scene in 1987 with his award winning debut album\, he soon found himself sharing the stage and trading licks with a few of those legends\, including Albert King and Albert Collins. Chris Cain has released a dozen albums\, each filled with soul-stirring songs pulled from his own blues drenched heart. His brand of blues is unforgettable.\n\nCain was raised on stories of his father’s childhood upbringing on Memphis’ Historic Beale Street and attended his first B.B King concert at the tender age of three. Blues music played continuously on the home stereo and family outings were often trips to concerts. Cain recalls\, “I remember when I was a kid\, my Dad would be mowing the lawn with the stereo blasting Muddy Waters. When I look back\, that was pretty cool! There was always music playing at our house\, Ray Charles\, B.B. King\, Freddie King\, Albert King\, all the greats.”\n\nAt the age of eight\, Cain taught himself to play guitar and began playing professionally before he was eighteen. Chris studied music at San Jose City College\, and was soon teaching jazz improvisation on campus. Over the next twenty years\, Cain would also master piano\, bass guitar\, clarinet\, alto and tenor saxophone. Grab the entire family and Visit Ely Nevada for 3 days of fun at the oldest horse racing event in Nevada. \nA safe bet for a fabulously exciting time is the White Pine Horse Races in Ely\, NV.  This iconic event has been taking place since the 1920s and draws thousands of people from all over the country.  Featuring exciting\, live action racing of thoroughbreds and quarter horses; complete with pari-mutuel betting\, bar\, concessions and the County Fair. Post time 3 pm Fri.\, Aug. 19; and 1 pm Sat. & Sun.\, Aug. 20-21. Free admission on Friday. On Sat. & Sun. $5. See you at the Races! Located halfway between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. \nOriginally organized in 1934\, the races were formed by local ranchers and business people in an effort to overcome the depression blues. Some of the people involved in the formation of the races were Bill Goodman\, Frank Calloway and Stan Draper. This group ran the races until 1937 when the county helped by forming a Fair Board. The first chairman of the board was Tom Bath\, a local business owner. A year later\, they would build a new race track and grandstand which is still in use. \nThe White Pine County Fair returns to the WPC fairground on August 19-21\, with all the fun of a county fair. Activities include\, 3 days of live music\, BBQ\, crafts\, vendors\, 4H exhibits\, livestock auctions\, and more. Grab the entire family and Visit Ely Nevada for 3 days of fun at the oldest horse racing event in Nevada. \nPari-mutuel betting is the most common form of horse racing betting. The term actually originated in France\, and literally translates “to wager amongst ourselves”. Unlike most other forms of betting\, the odds are not fixed. Rather than placing a bet against the race track\, like one would with a bookie\, horse racing bettors are wagering against each other.
