DESCRIPTION:Nevada Northern Railway host’s the inaugural Iron Horse Cookery Cook-Off. The railway invites cooks to step back in history for this culinary event\, preparing hearty meals the same way the earliest engineers did. \nA competitor in the Nevada Northern Railway Cookery-Cook-Off \nTeams of up to four cooks wearing authentic clothes from 100 years ago will prepare three meals in 45-minute rounds. The second-place team will receive a $75 cash prize and the team in first-place will be awarded a $150 cash prize. One cook will be the event’s grand champion named the Iron Horse Cookery Master Chef and will be awarded a $250 cash prize. DESCRIPTION:The steam locomotive and the bicycle were invented nearly 10 years apart. Both changed the way we travel\, but which will prevail on September 7 at the Race The Rails? \nAt the sound of the train whistle\, mountain and road bikers race to see who can get back to the depot before the train. \nMountain bikers test their speed and agility on a challenging 10 mile course through the beautiful mountains surrounding Ely\, while road bikers prove their speed and endurance on a 25 mile course along roads and highways in the area. Everyone who finishes the course will receive a finisher’s medal. \nThis is not a regular race against time\, or your fellow riders. It’s a race against one of histories most powerful inventions!

SUMMARY:Silver State Classic Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Driving enthusiasts from around the world gather in the Nevada high desert for the running of a truly unique racing and automotive event Sep. 12-15\, 2019. \nFrom Ely to Las Vegas\, a two-lane public highway is closed for the race. \n \nClasses begin at 95 mph\, and increase in 5 mph increments up through the 160 mph class\, with a 170 mph\, 180 mph\, and an Unlimited\, top speed class. Vehicles start one at a time\, in one minute intervals against a GPS timing clock\, and attempt to break the beam at the finish line as close as possible to their speed class target time. \nFirst\, Second and Third place trophies are awarded to the Driver and Navigator/Co-driver in each class\, based on most accurate elapsed time targets achieved\, as measured by SSCC timing equipment.

SUMMARY:Military Convoy Centennial Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln Highway Association is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a tour commemorating the centennial of the 1919 Army convoy across the Lincoln Highway\, arriving in Ely for an overnight stay on September 13. \nThe original convoy during the summer of 1919 was a monumental event in the history of the United States. On that convoy was a young army officer named Dwight Eisenhower\, who learned many lessons as they crossed the country on the Lincoln Highway. \n\nDuring the first two weeks of September 2019\, they retrace the path of Eisenhower and the Army convoy. The tour begins near the White House in Washington\, D.C. and travels at a leisurely pace\, averaging under 200 miles daily\, ending in San Francisco at the Lincoln Highway’s western terminus. Because of the historic nature of this tour\, participants are welcome and encouraged to drive vintage vehicles from any era — military or civilian — as they please. \nSo look forward to seeing plenty of vintage vehicles – military or otherwise – around September 13 in Ely\, and know that the drivers are retracing history!
