4 Seasons Of Adventures

Outdoor Recreation is White Pine County’s greatest draw. Our mountains, trails, and open spaces offer unique recreation opportunities unmatched throughout the state. For hikers and mountain climbers, White Pine County has the most 11,000+ Ft peaks in the state, Wheeler Peak being the tallest at over 13,000 ft above sea level. Miles of dirt roads offer unlimited exploration with your ATV/OHV, dirt bike, or bicycles, many roads leading to ghost towns or hot springs. Rock hounds will enjoy the excitement of treasure hunting on Garnet Hill, while fishermen can relax along the shorelines of Cummins Lake, Cave Lake State Park, or any of the mountain streams that are stocked with trout. Wildlife is abundant year round and photographers can catch trophy elk, deer, grouse, wild horses, wild cats, even big horn sheep in the high country of Great Basin National Park. Play a round on the most remote golf course in America before the snow flies and attention turns to snowmobiles, snowshoes, and backcountry skiing/snowboarding.

The Importance Of Trails

Throughout the mountain towns of the west are unique trail systems that user groups of all kinds are welcome to recreate on. Many of these trails started as old prospecting routes, game trails, or even rail beds. Communities are recognizing the importance of turning these historic paths into multi use recreation trails.  While the terrain is unique to each area the purpose of trails is the same throughout…connecting communities with nature. Communities with great trail systems benefit by having healthier and more active citizens, as well as, experiencing economic gains through tourism while preserving the thing people value most, the outdoors. Our trails are constantly expanding for both motorized and non motorized users. Enjoy and please stay on the trail.

Block One

Block One is where your Ely adventure begins. Located at the western entrance to town along U.S. Route 50, this open-air interpretive site offers a welcoming first stop to get your bearings and start planning. Open 24/7/365, it invites you to step out, take in the landscape, and shift from traveler to explorer.

Through thoughtfully designed placards, Block One introduces the history, culture, and must-see experiences of White Pine County—from outdoor adventure to heritage sites and local arts. The site is also home to the Richfield Station Mural and a unique labyrinth walkway designed for full wheelchair access. This walkable map highlights ten of the county’s major attractions, with plans to incorporate four key trail regions, allowing visitors to quite literally walk their way through the destination.

A tactile 3D map further brings the surrounding mountains and valleys to life, offering an accessible, hands-on way to experience the terrain. Whether you’re exploring by foot, bike, or car, Block One is designed for all visitors and serves as the perfect launch point to discover Ely and the wider region.
