"Let's Stay Another Day!" Itinerary
Don’t be surprised if one day in Ely is so packed with excitement that you wake up saying, “Let’s stay another day!”
Start day two off with a trip to the mountains. Great Basin National Park, 65 miles from Ely is host to the tallest freestanding peak in Nevada, Wheeler Peak. Reaching 13,064, Wheeler Peak is a sight to behold. The Park is also home to the largest tourable caverns. We are of course talking about the incomparable experience that is Lehman Caves.
Depending on how much you are willing to walk, the park is also home to the oldest trees in the world, the Bristlecone Pine, and the last remaining glacier in Nevada. It has also earned an offficial “dark sky” certification from the International Dark Sky Association. Neddless to say, Great Basin National Park is a go-to destination for moments under the stars. Of course, camping reservations are also available at: www.Recreation.gov

For experiences closer to town, rent an OHV at Eastern Nevada Adventures and explore the mountians and open spaces via dirt roads that lead right ouf of Ely. You can also take the family to Garnet Hill and search for treasure like the prospectors and cowboys that came before. The site is famous for its dark colored garnets found in volcanic rock. Some gems can be discovered simply lying around the site, but more adventurous rock hunters can unearth finer specimens using a hammer and chisel.
Wrap up the day with dinner at one our casino resorts and a movie at the historic, art deco Ely Central Theater.
