Serenity of Nature in the Great Basin

One to Two Days
Get an early start as your day will be filled with natural splendor. The Great Basin National Park is home to the second highest peak in Nevada soaring to 13,063 ft. First stop is a visit into “The Underground World”, Lehman Caves. The cave has many familiar formations like stalactites, stalagmites, columns, draperies, flowstone, and soda straws. But there are also rarities, like shields which the Lehman Caves is most famous for.

Plan a picnic lunch and head up to the Bristlecone Trailhead for an afternoon hike to experience the Bristlecone forests with trees thousands of years old. For those a little hardier a trek to the summit of Wheeler Peak for an awe-inspiring view of the Great Basin is in order.

Not up to hiking? Then a drive up to the Wheeler Peak Campground is still part of the Great Basin experience well worth the hour or so drive it will take. Once off the mountain don’t head back without first visiting Lexington Arch at the south end of the Park.
